The Bigger they are…..

Well, well, well!   Poor old Goliath.   Castle Cement has got the corporate knickers in a knot.    Gone all of a twitter.   Mind you, I can understand their problem.   A certain planning application not going quite according to plan!

Lots of ordinary people speaking out and standing firm.  Asking questions that Castle cannot satisfactorily answer, despite all the bluster and dead dodgy propaganda.   Working people like you and me, mounting an honest, considered and carefully presented opposition to the ghastly threat of visual and environmental degradation as represented by the Kiln 4 application.

Open Doors is a nice philosophy, but not when rubbish pours out from inside.

According to Goliath Castle, us Davids, CANK, Phoenix, F o E and all, are a collection of misleading untruthful scaremongers.  We don’t know our asthmas from our bronchitises, nor our cancers from our elbows.  We can’t tell the difference between fuel and waste, nor the difference between the present chimney and a cyclone tower, especially a 361 foot high one.  We haven’t a clue about the fact that Cemfuel has to be transported, mixed, moved and burned under safety data instructions categorizing it as “Toxic”.   To say nothing of the fact that we are heartless economic vandals for threatening a couple of hundred local jobs.

What a load of old cobblers!

Let me tackle the employment bit first.  Just who is threatening to shut the works if they are not allowed to maximise their corporate profits by incinerating waste solvents as fuel?  Then again, look at the steady downsizing over recent years.  Remember the lorry drivers on strike?   And what about the major interests watching from the sidelines, who will NOT bring significant developments and a couple of thousand jobs to the area if the air is tainted with the emissions that the burning of Cemfuel will create?   Concern for the economic welfare of the locality?  More like concern for Castle’s corporate balance sheet!

As for the cleaner air bit, how come that every time the issue of the very real concerns about health arising from both the authorised stack emissions and the unauthorised fugitive emissions comes up, Castle always trot out the questionable utterances of Dr. Richard Roberts.  No baseline health check has been undertaken.  No Health Impact Assessment is planned, despite the recommendations of the National Assembly for Wales in their documentation entitled “Better Health – Better Wales”.  CANK’s internationally respected specialist health witness studied cancer figures in entire electoral wards.   The figures give cause for concern.  Dr. Roberts used a concentric circle basis – and found no cause for concern.  That does not make our findings untruthful, nor wrong!

CANK, and the other groups opposing this dreadful application are still seeking answers, still opposing strongly and still acting in YOUR interests.  We encourage you to take an interest in this important issue.  Ask questions.  And don’t believe everything that comes out of an Open Door.
