Thanks for the email. Although the letter to Peter Law didn't come.
We've typed out a letter to Dr Richard Roberts today, and a covering letter
to Peter Law, with copy, which i could send on to you if you're interested.

Here's an article that appeared in The Guardian on Tues. 8th Feb. Rather
depressing reading....it looks as though the problem is a national one and
not just 'local' to us !!

WASTE FIRM ATTACKS 'QUICK FIX' PLAN FOR INCINERATORS

Plans to license up to 165 large incinerators to replace unsightly rubbish
dumps were attacked yesterday by a waste operator as a 'quick fix'.
Peter Jones, a director of Biffa, accused ministers of failing the
'joined-up government test' by not being able to co-ordinate policy. A
company report said: "The history of the waste industry is littered with
ambitious 'technology solutions'."
The company is backing Friends of the Earth, which has issued a long list of
planned incinerators showing that London and the south-east will be
particularly hard hit, with plans for a huge incinerator at Belvedre in
south London.
Five incinerators are planned in the Manchester area and there are schemes
across the rest of the north west
from Chester to Liverpool to Carlisle to Blackpool.
Mike Childs, a landfill campaigning officer for Friends of the Earth, said:
"IT shows that the government's policy on this is seriously adrift if we get
a private waste company and Friends of the Earth attacking them on the same
front."
BothMicheal Meacher, the environment minister, and Chris Mullin, junior
minister at the department of the environment, transport and the regions are
under attack from MP's for going ahead with so many schemes.
The most critical have been Liberal Democrats Andrew Stunnell, Hazel Grove,
and Norman Baker, Lewes who have large schemes planned for their area.
